Madar (Algiers) - Air Algérie announced on Saturday, October 17, 2026, that it had taken delivery of its sixth Airbus A330neo, named "Ras El Afia", according to the official APS news agency and the state-owned daily Horizons.
The name refers to the Ras El Afia lighthouse in Jijel province. The airline said the choice reflects "loyalty to the national memory" and pays tribute to the region's residents, who embodied "the strength of hope" through their resilience.
The aircraft is the sixth of its type to join the national carrier's fleet, after planes named "November 54", "Gara Djebilet", "Yennayer", "Diaspora" and "Fennec". Designed for long-haul routes, the A330neo can carry more than 300 passengers across all classes and burns up to 25% less fuel than previous generations, according to the same source. It also offers Wi-Fi internet access on board.
The delivery is part of a fleet renewal and expansion programme launched in 2023, which provides for the purchase of ten Boeing 737 MAX 9s, ten Airbus A330neos and 16 ATR 72-600s to strengthen the domestic network.
It also falls under the company's 2035 action plan, which foresees further aircraft purchases to meet growing demand for air travel at home and abroad.
