The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has warned of escalating cholera outbreaks in six countries in West and Central Africa, putting millions of children at risk. It called for an urgent $15 million to support the response over the next six months.
The agency said heavy rainfall, flooding, displacement and cross-border movement had accelerated the spread of the disease, particularly as water and sanitation networks were damaged and vulnerable areas became difficult to reach.
The affected countries are the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and the Central African Republic, according to UNICEF.
