Mauritania's government said it was continuously monitoring regional and international health developments following the reporting of Ebola cases in several African countries.
A joint statement from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Health, and Equipment and Transport said the authorities were strengthening vigilance and health surveillance at border crossings to reduce the risk of diseases spreading across borders.
The government urged Mauritanian citizens living in or visiting countries where cases had been reported to exercise caution and follow the preventive guidance issued by the relevant health authorities.
The statement announced the formation of a national emergency unit bringing together the departments concerned to follow developments in the outbreak and monitor information about it. The unit would also coordinate with Mauritanian diplomatic missions abroad to follow the situation of citizens.
The government said the emergency unit would remain in continuous session to keep track of health developments related to the disease.
