Burkina Faso reported a rise of about 7% in seed-cotton production during the 2025/2026 season, to 314,293 tonnes from 294,507 tonnes in the previous season. The figures, covering conventional and organic seed cotton, appear in the Council of Ministers' assessment adopted on 25 June.
The higher harvest marks an improvement in cotton production within the agricultural sector after seasons marked by climate-related and production challenges. Cotton is one of Burkina Faso's leading export crops and an important source of foreign currency and income for thousands of farmers.
The authorities are seeking to increase production and make the crop more competitive by supporting production chains and improving marketing conditions, with the aim of supporting the national economy and stimulating agricultural activity.
