Madar (International) - Elon Musk has unveiled a Tesla Roadster 2 prototype that he billed as "the world's first flying car", at a demonstration held on Thursday, 15 October 2026, at SpaceX's rocket development and test site in Texas, The Guardian reported.
According to the British newspaper, video of the event shows the car climbing a curved ramp and clinging to it upside down using suction, then firing thrusters to flip, fly and land, and later leaping over a row of existing Tesla models. Musk said the car was driven remotely "to make sure we don't kill anyone" and that it reaches 60mph (about 97km/h) in under a second.
"Flying cars are real," Musk said, describing altitude controls and main thrusters at the rear that let it "basically fly like a rocket". He conceded he was "not sure it's necessarily legal in all jurisdictions" and that the prototype was "not necessarily a safety optimised car".
The Guardian said the Roadster 2 is due to enter production in 2028 at a price above $200,000. Tesla's reservation site listed a $250,000 deposit for a "thrust" version, while a one-seat "rocket" variant with a full flight system was offered by invitation only, with the company noting that flying it is not permitted on public roads.
