Madar (International) - Nigerian health authorities confirmed on Monday, November 2, 2026, that samples from two suspected Ebola cases in the north-east of the country were negative after two rounds of testing, RFI reported.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said on social media that the two people had been isolated while officials carried out contact identification, listing and laboratory testing.
Nigeria confirmed its first Ebola case in more than a decade on October 23 in a 42-year-old Swiss woman who had travelled to Uganda before returning to Abuja; she and her husband went back to Switzerland on October 26. It remains the only confirmed case of the Bundibugyo strain in the country.
In DR Congo, the centre of the outbreak, more than 5,000 people have died since it was declared in May, while Kenya has recorded two deaths among nine cases and the Central African Republic has tightened border checks. Trials have begun to see whether the Ervebo vaccine protects against the Bundibugyo strain, which has no approved treatment or vaccine, RFI said.
