Madar (Dakar) - Senegal's national public transport company Dakar Dem Dikk (DDD) will put 184 buses at the disposal of the organising committee of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the Senegalese news agency APS reported on Saturday, 24 October 2026, a week before the Games open.

DDD director general Modou Bara Gaye said the company's contract with the organisers requires it to mobilise 184 high-standard buses for shuttles, adding that 12 dedicated "YOG" lines will run between departure points and key sites.

Qatar's ambassador to Senegal, Youssef Bin Shaaban Ibrahim Al Sada, handed the organising committee 15 buses and security equipment on Friday, 23 October, at a ceremony at the committee's headquarters attended by its president, Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye.

On the same day, the Senegalese armed forces' health service carried out a helicopter reconnaissance of the medical evacuation system planned for the Games, while the Chief of General Staff, Vice-Admiral Oumar Wade, met the committee president to review security, health and logistics, according to the army's information directorate.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports postponed until a later date the ceremony at which President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was to hand the national flag to Team Senegal, which had been planned for Saturday at the Guereo camp in the Thies region. The 136 Senegalese athletes, competing in 23 disciplines, are based at Guereo rather than the Olympic village.

According to APS, the obverse of the Games medals, designed by Spain's Pilar Barbadillo Vicario, shows a lion whose mane is formed by two symmetrical faces topped with olive branches, while the reverse features the baobab tree.

The Games, the first Olympic event held on the African continent, run from 31 October to 13 November 2026 in Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly, with about 2,700 athletes.
